Van Straaten

I am a colourist. I handle colours with a great emotion. Strong interior tensions appear when faced with the anxiety of a blank page. Once released, these allow me to find and surprise myself with an unveiled and unaware construction. The cracks come to life and figures appear. I relentlessly mould and juxtapose colours. My creation is a long search for the unknown, the marvellous and the imaginary : for me this is an absolute necessity to render reality incredible. Each piece work is a page from my story. Beyond the visible, I unveil its emotions and carry us into a world where colour occupies all spaces, and where the finesse of the contrasts unavoidably embrace my extraordinary sensitivity. I begin work in troubled moments from which the dream arises. My curiosity and my need for serenity have transported me around the world and some of my paintings are the fruit of my voyages to Myanmar, Greece, Egypt, California and India. Finally, the Other, this estranged human relentlessly interrogates me : I'll try to unit with him beyond his appearance and attempt to express his most mysterious aspects.
